Richard studied music at the highly acclaimed Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He studied choral conducting with Simon Halsey and orchestral conducting with Jonathon Del Mar.
He fell in love with conducting almost immediately and since graduating with a music degree has conducted orchestras, choral societies, community choirs and musical theatre companies all across the Midlands and more recently in Devon and the South West of England.
In 2017 he successfully auditioned to become rock choir leader for Devon. Rock Choir is the largest community choir in the UK. There are 32,000 members singing in over 400 communities nationwide. Members don’t have to audition and don’t have to have any experience with singing in choirs. Rock Choir is full of people who love to sing, meet new people and have fun together. It’s a great way to improve self confidence and to make lifelong friends and is great for your well being and mood as well as your physical and mental health. Rock choir sing uplifting, upbeat pop and rock songs in harmony and perform in the local communities to make others feel happy and to make people smile!

Richard runs rock choirs in the following towns:
- Torquay Mondays at 7.30pm
- Plymouth Tuesdays at 7.30pm
- Newton Abbot Wednesdays at 7.30pm
- Teignmouth Thursdays at 7.30pm
Richard and his rockies love singing and can regularly be seen performing at local community events and raising much needed money for local charities. They also have wonderful opportunities to sing further afield in the Southwest and to take part in large scale national performances where they join thousands of other singers to make a super big Rock Choir. They have sung at the BBC proms in London and are looking forward to singing at the NEC and the famous Abbey Road Studios in the near future.
