I have just had the privilege of playing at a beautiful October wedding in Spreyton near Crediton. A real traditional feel today with a church choir and a traditional wedding ceremony set in a lovely Devon Village. The violin stayed home today as this was a piano gig. I played the Prelude in C by Bach for the guests while they settled down. Pachelbels Canon on the flute with piano accompaniment was the entrance music then I accompanied the Spreyton Singers as they sung the very pretty 'Songbird' by Eva Cassidy and the rousing 'Best Day of my life' for the exit of the bridal party. Congratulations to Tasha and Chris on a lovely ceremony. Best wishes for your future together.
I spent the afternoon today with the amazing Exe Valley String Quartet at Bovey Castle playing for their open day. We play at this beautiful wedding venue just on the edge of Dartmoor a lot as we are on their recommended list of suppliers. This is a 5* venue with all the trimmings as you can see from the pictures. We played in the stunning Cathedral Room where all the big weddings take place. This is a venue where we play a lot of our classical music repertoire which is always lovely. We had lots of people complimenting us on our playing and lots of visitors finding out how to book us for their weddings later this year and in 2020. This is a special venue for the quartet as in May 2017 we were selected to play for the wedding of Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black which is still up there as a highlight for us as an ensemble.
The Exe Valley String Quartet spent the afternoon at Exeter Racecourse playing at the Chic Elite Wedding Fair. We had a lovely afternoon playing a wide range of music from the classical greats through to upbeat pop and rock classics. We even played a bit of jazz and some film themes. 'Game of Thones' theme seemed to go down very well and always gets a positive reaction. It was nice to meet lots of propspective brides and grooms and their families to discuss the different wedding packages we have available. Lovely feedback as well. Now to follow up the requests with a bespoke quote.
January and February is a time for recovery after a very busy Christmas period. I am currently writing out some arrangemnents in preparation for a busy summer period of weddings and events. I will be joining the Exe Valley String Quartet to showcase our repertoire and music at wedding fairs across Devon. We start at Exeter Racecourse on Sunday 27th january (11am - 3pm). Then we will be playing at The Osborne Hotel in Torquay on Sunday 17th February (similar times) and then finally we will be playing at Bovey Castles open day on Saturday 2nd March (2pm - 5pm). As a soloist I will be playing at the Moorland Hotel overlooking Dartmoor on Sunday 10th February from 11am. If you are planning a wedding or know somebody that is or maybe you know somebody planning a corporate event or dinner or something similar where a live string quartet or violinist or pianist would add to the atmosphere and ambience for the event then it will be great to hear from you.
