What a lovely Easter wedding at St.John’s Church in Bishipsteignton. The sun was shining and the music was glorious. The quartet played a range of pop hits with a new favourite ‘It must be Love’ by Madness for the exit of the bride and groom. Congratulations to the happy couple.
It is the Spring which means we are now back visiting beautiful wedding venues all over Devon. Yesterday we started the year at one of our favourite and most visited venues Deer Park Country House. A lovely wedding in the spring sunshine. The music requests included 'Wildest Dreams' by Taylor Swift, the theme from The Champions League and 'Shut up and Dance' to send the guests on their way to their drinks reception. Its so good to be back playing as a quartet after our short break and lovely to hear all the positive feedback. Looking forward to a very busy summer season.
Yesterday we played our last wedding of the year at the very beautiful Higher Eggbeer Farm. It felt very Christmassy in the barn with the twinkling lights and roaring fires. The bride walked in to ‘The most beautiful girl in the world’ by Prince and we played ‘Dancing in the kitchen’ by Lany for the bride and groom’s exit.
We braved the stormy weather yesterday and took a road trip over the moors to beautiful (but windy) Tavistock. A lovely winter wedding in the iconic town hall. The bride walked into the theme from 'A Little Chaos' which is a great string piece. We also played I Giorni and Sweet Disposition - a real mixture of pieces and genres. We have one more winter wedding next Saturday and then we have a well earned break in January and February.
Totnes Guildhall Wedding November 30th 2024. Nice to play in a unique setting. Always nice when we are asked to play from our classical repertoire. Beautiful music like Wedding Day at Troldhaugen (Grieg) and Tchaikovsky Waltz Des Fleurs. This was complemented by the brides entrance (moonlight Serenade) and exit music (Nobody Does it Better - 007). Richard was happy because we also got to play a lot of Beatles songs as well.
Another lovely trip to gorgeous Rockbeare Manor. This venue seems to be our second home now and we love playing here. Thanks to Steph and the team for looking after us. We played a mixture of pieces before the ceremony including the 007 theme for the groomsmen who looked very dapper. We then played for an hour or so to accompany the drinks reception including 'Life on Mars' which we haven't played for a while. Great tune! Lovely day making music together. We will be back in December for some Christmas weddings.
I had a double header this weekend with the Exe Valley String Quartet. Friday we played at a wedding at Upton Barn and Walled Gardens which is a regular venue for us over the past few years. Lovely wedding with some Bridgerton music and James Bond 007 theme. On Saturday we travelled down the A38 to the very beautiful Hareston Manor. What a stunning place to get married! This was a Canadian wedding so we played the groomsmen and bridesmaids in first (Ed Sheeran Perfect) followed by the bride (Take my Hand - Picture this). We then played a wide range of styles and classics for the drinks reception and photographs. It was a really lovely occasion. What a job I have!
Lovely bank holiday wedding at the very beautiful Huntsham Court Country House, Devon. Day out with the Exe Valley String Quartet. The weather stayed dry although a bit windy. We played 'Wildest Dreams' from Bridgerton for the entrance of the bridal party, Mama Mia and 'Habits' for the signing of the register and we played out the guests with 'Firework' by Katy Perry. We even got to play some rock songs for the brides father, Sweet Child of Mine and Back in Black by ACDC! First of two very different gigs this bank holiday weekend. Off to Plymouth the Rock Choir tomorrow.
Just returned from our Rock Choir Tour to the Edinburgh Fringe and straight up the Devon Link Road to the beautiful North Devon coast. I joined up with the fabulous Exe Valley String Quartet and went up to Sandy Cove Hotel in Ilfracombe for a lovely wedding. It was a bit soggy so we had to play indoors but that didn't matter at all. We even got to play our brand new arrangement of 'I don't wanna miss a thing' by Airosmith for the Brides entrance. We get to play at some stunning venues.
I joined the Exe Valley String Quartet today for a lovely wedding at a new venue for us. Lavender House near Ashburton. Another lovely summers day playing outside in the gardens for the ceremony and the drinks reception. Music requests included a new one - Habits by Tove Lo for the brides entrance. We also played At Last and Sign Sealed Delivered for the signing of the register and a good old classic to send them on their way - All you need is love by The Beatles. We were also asked to play a quartet version of Hi Ho Silver Lining - it kinda worked! Another great day!
Another fabulous afternoon playing at a beautiful wedding at the very beautiful Rockbeare Manor. Thanks to Steph and the staff as always for looking after us. We had an afternoon of classical music which is always nice. We played the very gorgeous 'La Califfa' for the brides entrance - what a melody that is! We played for just under 4 hours today for the guests who were very appreciative. #weddingquartet #exevalleystringquartet #devonquartet
Lovely Wedding at Upton Barn & Walled Garden near Collumpton last Friday. We are becoming regular visitors to this venue now and it is set in the beautiful Devon countryside. We played Pachelbels Canon for the Bridal party to enter, Arrival of the Queen of Sheeba and Marry You by Bruno Mars for the signing of the register an then we played one of our new arrangements 'The Theme Tune from Friends' for the exit of the guests. A very appreciative crowd with lots of lovely feedback.
What a fabulous weekend we spent together. Saturday was our very first trip to Higher Egbeer Farm nr Cheriton Bishop which was beautiful and rustic. Sunday we returned to a very familiar venue Rockbeare Manor nr Exeter. Today we played a very special request. 'English Rose' by Paul Weller was very close to the bride's heart and was chosen for her entrance music. We always love writing special arrangements for couples because it makes their day even more special and personal. 5 weddings played at in June with another 3 to go. Loving our jobs! #weddingquartet #exevalleystringquartet

On Saturday we travelled down to Dartmouth for another beautiful wedding in a stunning location. The ceremony was at the Guildhall in Dartmouth and then we took the ferry over to Kingswear Yacht Club playing with the River Dart in the background. Lots of new requests today including Hymn to the fallen, Out of Africa and Lift me up from Black Panther. Lots of film music today with a sprinkling of classical favourites and even Guns and Roses. The couple were lovely and extremely appreciative of our music.
It's a busy few weeks for the string quartet now as we enter the wedding season. Today was our first visit to Watermouth Cove Weddings in North Devon. Well worth the drive up from Dawlish. What a stunning place to get married. Beautiful grounds and beautiful views. Fantastic staff who were so helpful. Great gig today. Music requests included Concerning Hobbits and 'Married Life' from the film 'Up'. We then got to play through a whole set of rock and pop classics as the guests mingled on the beach!
Our job is such a privilege; playing in beautiful places, meeting lovely people and taking part in the most intimate and important day of a couples life. What a wonderful day we had yesterday playing for James and Ella’s Dungeons and Dragons wedding day at Natsworthy Manor near Widecombe on the Moor. It was certainly a day to remember.

We had the pleasure of playing at the beautiful Poltimore Church on Saturday. After a lovely wedding service the quartet played a variety of pop pieces at a private venue for the drinks reception. We finished the set with a rendition of Sweet Child O’ Mine including a fabulous improvised solo from Richard our 1st violinist.
