Fabulous wedding today at the very lovely Lakeview Manor. Our first visit to this lovely wedding venue near to Honiton. Congratulations to Bex and Scott on a beautiful day. We were asked to play our brand new arrangement today of A Million Dreams which is such a cool melody. We then went off out into the garden and played under the gazebo for the drinks reception. This is the end of a very busy but totally amazing week of gigs. Four weddings in five days. 450 miles. 4 gorgeous wedding venues in 4 beautiful parts of the lovely South West of England. Time for a short rest now! More weddings at the end of August.
Wow! What an amazing venue to play your violin. I have just returned from my road trip to Ilfracombe and the stunning Tunnels Beaches hotel. This was definitely a day for the funky electric violin. I played One day like this for the bride's entrance, God only knows and All you need is love for the signing of the register and then Viva la Vida for the exit of the bridal party. I then accompanied the drinks and champagne reception with the sea and the cliffs in the background. I love my job so much!
We played at a lovely wedding today in Exeter. This time is was the Exe Valley String Duo. We played for the civil ceremony at Larkbeare House first and the music choices included Canon (Pachelbel), My Heart will go on, Tale as old as time and Rule the World! Then we went off to The Devon Hotel and Carriages to play some more classical and pop while everybody enjoyed a drink and a chat in the sunshine. Congratulations to Jonathon and Gareth.
I was honoured to play at a very intimate wedding today at The Cowshed in Corwall. I was asked by Jade and Peter to put together some original arrangements for their ceremony. These included a new version of Galway Girl by Steve Earle for Jade's entrance and also David Bowie's Magic Dance from the film Labyrinth for the happy couple to exit the ceremony. It was a beautiful ceremony in a really lovely setting. This was followed by a cream tea while I played a short set of Irish/Celtic melodies. Lovely day out in beautiful Cornwall.
After a very busy month or so it has been lovely to sing at smaller, community events this weekend. On Friday afternoon we entertained the kids and staff at Bearnes Primary School as they held their summer fete. On Sunday we went to St Meliion near Saltash for their annual traditional Cherry Feast community event. Both gigs were very hot but the standard of singing and the attitude of the Rockies was totally professional. We had lots of positive feedback from those listening and we were very much appreciated. It's always nice to sing in the local community and support events like these.
Part 2 of our amazing Rock Choir weekend! 75 Rockies sang at the Teignmouth Airshow weekend. This was a particularly important gig as we were singing in one of our towns that has a rock choir so there was lots of local support! The sound was great and the harmonies came through so clearly! Lots of great feedback and people asking how they join us! Great day.
I am so very lucky to be asked to play in some very beautiful locations. I was invited to play solo violin in the small chapel on the Lanhydrock Estate close to Bodmin. It was a lovely traditional ceremony and I was asked to play 1000 years (Christina Perry) for the brides entrance, Cant help falling in love with you (Elvis Presley) and an unaccompanied version of Somewhere over the rainbow for the signing of the register. The bridal party and guests made their exit to Marry You by Bruno Mars. I also played I really like you By Carly Rae Jepsen for the very first time. Sounded nice on the violin! Congratulations to Samantha and Alec! What a lovely venue and a lovely wedding.
Lovely day today with the Exe Valley String Quartet. We played at the beautiful Paschoe House in Devon. It is so nice to play beautiful pieces like Clare de Lune and Greensleeves against such a lovely back drop. Judging by the reaction of the guests 'Sweet Child O Mine' went down well again! Congratulations Amy and Marc on your wedding. Thank you Tabitha for being such a wonderful host. We had the honour of playing before the ceremony, as the beautiful bride made her entrance, during the signing of the register and then for the exit of the bridal party and the guests. We then moved up to the patio to play for the drinks reception and we even played for a large part of the wedding breakfast as well, It was a really lovely gig with a very appreciative audience!
On Saturday night Exe Valley String Quartet were very privileged to be invited to play at a 'Titanic' themed dinner event at Torbay Yacht Club in Torquay. (Royal Torbay Yacht Club) It was a real posh do and it was so nice to play all of our classical repertoire. We also played some new music - a medley of 'Pirates of Penzance' songs which went down well and also some Joplin rags! There was even a surprise performance from a barbershop quartet! I do love my job!
What a great night! We have just rocked Dawlish at their Arts Festival. There was a lovely atmosphere in the Strand Centre in town last night and the weather was glorious! We opened the gig with Footloose and the atmosphere and singing and dancing was electric from the very first note! We shared the gig with Dawlish band, Maddy and the Chaps with their mix of rock, Irish and folk songs which got everyone up singing and dancing. Cracking night Dawlish! Well done!
This is the start of a busy weekend of gigs in and around Devon. I spent the morning down in my home town of Dawlish playing as part of the open mic sessions on the bandstand. It was a lovely event playing live music to the people of Dawlish, residents and holiday makers alike. I put my classical head to one side for a bit and played some contemporary tunes on electric violin including Bohemian Rhapsody, Tunes from La La land and A star is born, viva la vida, No Place Id rather be and a bit of Ed Sheeran - Perfect! Next stop is Rock Choir at the arts festival tonight. Exciting!!
I have just been practising some new repertoire. There are some really beautiful melodies in the scores from 'La La Land' and 'A Star is Born'. Sounds great on the Electric Violin with a hint of reverb!!
What a lovely day for an Easter wedding at the beautiful Rockbeare Manor with the Exe Valley String Quartet - one of our regular venues. Congratulations Laura and John on your wedding day. Very contemporary feel with a film flavour as well. 'A Million Dreams' to enter, 'Somebody to love' (Queen) and You only twice (OO7) for the signing and 'Dont stop believing' to exit. We also got to play some of our new tunes including Shotgun and Jurassic Park!
I was down in Plymouth yesterday with the very talented Plymouth Philharmonic Choir and their conductor Christopher Fletcher. The soloists were fabulous and we played to a sold out Guildhall. This choral piece by Bach has two orchestras and two choirs and six soloists. It is a gorgeous piece os vocal music with some beautiful arias and lovely string writing. It was a pleasure to be a part of this concert. I now have a week off to rest my fingers!
Lovely wedding in beautiful Bickleigh. Gorgeous little village church with a lovely acoustic. A mixture of music requested today from Pachelbel to John Legend to The Beatles. Congratulations to Emma and James. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of your special day. Its been a busy weekend for gigs with St Matthew Passion (Bach) still to come tomorrow.
I have just had the honour to play my violin at a wake in Bradninch. There was a lovely atmosphere at the occasion and I played a wide variety of genres while guests chatted, had a drink and a reminisce. I was asked to play a bit of Clannad which was lovely and we ended on Darude - Sandstorm! Sounds great on electric violin!!!
I have just returned from a great couple of days in Truro Cathedral with Three Spires Singers and Orchestra. This was an awsome programme as well as being a very challenging one. The string writing was immense, very high in places and very very fast. I will be giving my fingers the week off to recover! It was an honour and real musical highlight to accompany Cordelia Williams as she played the Prokofiev Piano Concerto. It was simply stunning! A really
I had such a lovely evening with the Exeter Gospel Choir last night. I ran a vocal workshop with them singing lots of lovely close harmony warm ups followed by a look at Swing Low Sweet Chariot and Amazing Grace in three part harmony. A musically rewarding evening with a lovely choir. Best wishes for your future performances!
Richard was brilliant last night. We wanted Gaelic up beat music for our party which was great, later interspersed by some classic pop covers. He did exactly as we asked and made our party just that bit different. Thanks Richard. (10 / 10)
