Great gig in the lovely Devon village Abbotskerswell. We had a lovely time singing and supporting the local primary school and local community. The weather stayed dry and the rockies enjoyed a bit of country dancing with the band. We all had a great day together and the singing was fantastic!
Christmas Gigs continued this evening at the iconic Theatre Royal Plymouth. Plymouth Rockies were invited to sing pre panto (Oh yes we were!). Lovely cosy venue with really lovely staff who treated us to mince pies afterwards. Plymouth Rockies were on top form and the performance was excellent and very well received by the theatre goers. A different kind of gig for us but one we thoroughly enjoyed. Well done everyone and thank you for turning out on a filthy wet and windy night!
After a very busy month or so it has been lovely to sing at smaller, community events this weekend. On Friday afternoon we entertained the kids and staff at Bearnes Primary School as they held their summer fete. On Sunday we went to St Meliion near Saltash for their annual traditional Cherry Feast community event. Both gigs were very hot but the standard of singing and the attitude of the Rockies was totally professional. We had lots of positive feedback from those listening and we were very much appreciated. It's always nice to sing in the local community and support events like these.
Well that was a busy Bank Holiday Weekend!!! Three gigs with my amazing Rock Choirs over the weekend in three beautiful places. We are so lucky living here. Friday night we sung at a concert at Maker Church to help raise money for Parkinsons mid Cornwall. It was a stunning venue with a lovely acoustic. There was a variety of vocal groups on the programme and they were all fabulous. Saltash Rockies and Plymouth Rockies - you were a credit and you sounded great! On Saturday lunchtime we sung at Saltash May Fair with the river Tamar as a backdrop. Different gig this time. We sang on a big stage with a very powerful PA! Again the rockies from Saltash and Plymouth sounded amazing!!! Saltash was well and truly rocked!!!! On Monday I came closer to home as we sang at Sefton Hall Nursing Home in Dawlish. We do this gig every year and its lovely. We get to sing to the residents and their families which is so rewarding and they love us!! Again the rockies, this time from Torquay, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot were brilliant - you looked and sounded so good! All of you make me feel very proud! Well done everyone.
We had a lovely Rock Choir night last Saturday at Avenue Church as we shared a concert with the Newton Abbot Ukulele band. There was a great turn out and the audience loved the songs and could be seen clapping and singing along. The concert was in aid of Teignbridge Home Start and the evening raised over £1000 which is wonderful news. Well done to all the rockies who came to sing and support the concert - you sounded amazing! Special well done to the rockies on their first gig! brilliant!
I had such a lovely evening with the Exeter Gospel Choir last night. I ran a vocal workshop with them singing lots of lovely close harmony warm ups followed by a look at Swing Low Sweet Chariot and Amazing Grace in three part harmony. A musically rewarding evening with a lovely choir. Best wishes for your future performances!
Richard spent the morning in Plymouth at BBC Radio Devon talking all things Rock Choir! Richard met up with Vikki Hewitt the leader of the East Devon Rock Choirs and Katherine and Janice members of Plymouth Rock Choir. They all appeared on the David Fitzgerald show to discuss why Rock Choir is such a popular phenomenon that over 30,000 people do every week across the UK! We talked about Abbey Rd recordings, being a part of the BBC Proms in the Park through to the amzing happy feeling that we all get through singing together each week. Fab time!
On Thursday 13th December 2018 I had the absolute pleasure of working with the amazing students from PQA Exeter Academy and also the wonderfully talented G4 who were X Factor finalists in the competitions early days. The programme was made up of lots of beautiful Christmas favourites all in gorgeous close harmonies. We performed many pieces together including 'You'll Never Walk Alone' from Carousel, 'O Holy Night' and 'Walking in the air'. The sell out audience had a thoroughly lovely evening.
On Sunday 9th December 140 Rockies from Torquay, Plymouth, Saltash, Newton Abbot and Teignmouth rock choirs braved the elements to sing at the annual Christmas fayre. Although the sun was shining we had fun doing our choreography in the mud! The large audience had a smashing afternoon and complimented us on our amazing singing and enthusiasm. Thanks rockies for another memorable gig. You all clearly enjoy singing together and having fun times!
