Lovely summers gig in Chudleigh Knighton yesterday raising money for FrieNDs charity. Singing, tea and coffee and cakes on a sunny May afternoon. Very English! We always enjoy our local community gigs down here in Devon. Well done to all the South Devon Rockies for another great performance.
Wow! What an awesome gig that was! Over 100 Plymouth Rockies sang their hearts out in the newly refurbished Old Town Square in the heart of Plymouth City Centre. Its part of the new Saturday sessions to entertain the shoppers and visitors. The rockies were magnificent and the feedback has been incredible. Well done everyone and a special shout out to those Plymouth Rockies doing their very first gig. I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did. We also heard The Cabarats who were brilliant with their reggae, ska, funk style which was perfect for this sunny Plymouth afternoon. Thanks to Michelle for being so helpful as well. A great day. Totnes Christmas Market 2024. I don't think we will forget this gig in a hurry! Terrential rain, leaking gazebos, large white horses attacking the MD, light parades.... The Rockies were of course incredible. They sang their hearts out and smiled all the way though the gig. (Two sets as well! Must be mad!) I think its safe to say we put a smile on the face of everyone in Totnes last night with that wonderful performance. We won't mention the very soggy, very grumpy choir leader! He is ok now. merry Christmas everyone and a very Happy New Year.
Absolutely incredible! We have just finished three charity concerts in the space of a week in Torquay, Plymouth and Newton Abbot. 3 concerts, 300 singers, 3 towns, £7000 raised for local charities, over 1000 audience and one very happy and very proud musical director! The rockies should all feel so proud after singing their hearts out. They all sang with such enthusiasm and passion and emotion and they all conducted themselves with such professionalism. They really are a special group of people who help and support each other and never stop smiling! Fantastic times!
Paignton Zoo 2024. Unfortunately another damp and soggy gig for us all but that doesn't stop the rockies does it! Thank you all for being so professional in difficult weather conditions. You still managed to sing with a smile on your faces which was wonderful to see. We enjoyed ourselves didn't we? I think the monkeys did as well. Well done everyone. Next stop is our Torquay concert on Tuesday and Torbay Bay of Lights on Thursday!
Buckfast Abbey Christmas Fair 2024. Well that is a gig that will last long in the memory. It started to rain in the first song and didn't stop for the whole set. The South Devon Rockies still did a fabulous job and sang so well that the large audience stayed and sang and danced in the rain with us! We must all be mad! Great day. Well done everyone, I hope you have all dried off now. Next stop is Paignton Zoo on Sunday.
IvyBridge Christmas Market 2024. Always a festive and community feel to this event. Lots of people there including lots of Rockies coming to support each other. The new songs sound amazing and I can't tell you how many people stopped me afterwards to say how wonderful the choir was. Well done everyone who came along. A great way to kick off the Christmas season. Miss Ivy Events Rock Choir
We had a lovely evening singing at the Tavistock Town Hall last night. It was a concert in conjunction with Tavistock Lions in front of a full house in aid of local charities. First time performing at the Family Fun Day in Plymouth. Nice community gig singing to lots of lovely people. They loved hearing us and joining in. Well done to the Plymouth Rockies for a thoroughly professional performance. We had to deal with high winds, heavy showers, an outdoor acoustic, a dog show (which was really cute). Sounded awesome and we had lots of positive feedback. There was lots of food and drink stalls at the event and I tried a vegan sausage roll for the very first time. (Sorry guys, I wasn't convinced!) Thank you to the Newton Abbot Rockies and Dawlish/Teignmouth Rockies who came along in their tee shirts to support. It was lovely to see you and a big heart felt thank you for being there. #plymouth #newtonabbot #torquay #dawlish #teignmouth.
To round off a fabulous Rock Choir couple of weeks we came back to Dawlish like we do every August to sing at the Dawlish Celebrates Carnival. As always the atmosphere in the town and the audience was buzzing. Its always so nice to sing in our local community. Well done to all the South Devon Rockies who sang this morning. Lots of very positive feedback. Time for a short break now before we sing at the family fun day in Central Park, Plymouth. #torquay #plymouth #newtonabbot #teignmouth #dawlish Rock Choir.
Friday August 2nd 2024. What a great way to end the week. 190 South Devon Rockies singing today outside the iconic Buckfast Abbey. We had a really appreciative and large crowd come over to watch and listen and I can't tell you all how proud it makes me feel when I hear the amazing feedback from the friends and family listening to us. Huge shout out to the rockies on their first gig today - you were brilliant. Next stop.....Edinburgh fringe!
Sunday 28th July - Dawlish Lawn/Band Stand. A lovely Sunday summer afternoon in beautiful Dawlish. Live music featuring the wonderful Torbay Brass Band the the South Devon Rockies. The rockies were again on top form as we performed two sets to a lovely appreciative audience. Our new songs went down really well. Love my rockies very much - always sound and look very professional even in hot conditions like today. Respect!
Saturday 27th July 2024 - our debut appearance at the Bovey Tracey Party in the Park. What a great gig. A traditional Devon event where families bring a picnic and are entertained all day and night by local musicians, groups and bands. Stalls and food and drinks and things for the kids to do. The weather was kind and 100 South Devon Rockies were bang in form as we sang to a good crowd of over 1000 people! Can we come back next year please!
