My final solo wedding gig of a busy Easter. This time I played at the beautiful @elfordleigh in Plympton. This time for Ellie and James drinks reception outside overlooking the golf course. Just over an hour of pop and rock favourites on electric violin. Lovely afternoon.
Third gig in a busy Easter week. A lovely church wedding in Kingskerswell followed by the drinks reception at the @bickleymill. Beautiful traditional church service which included A Million Dreams. Electric violin for the drinks reception to play some lively tunes. We even had the guests singing and dancing! Beautiful wedding at stunning venues in beautiful sunshine!
A busy week started at the lovely St Audries Park Wedding Venue nr Taunton. This was for a wedding vows renewal drinks reception. Always like drinks receptions because it gives me the opportunity to play through different repertoire. Music requests included ‘You’ve got the love’ by Florence and the Machine.
Beautiful and very intimate Easter wedding on Monday at Brickhouse Vineyard. I played a variety of music while the couple enjoyed their champagne afternoon tea. I also enjoyed playing some new repertoire including Concerning Hobbits from Lord of the Rings and Closing Time by semisonic. Congratulations to Jessica and Stuart and not forgetting Bernard. Its a busy week this week and Im off to St Audries Park Wedding Venue on Friday and then Bickleigh Mill on Saturday.
I love playing new pieces. Dvorak Stabat Mater is new to me but I had a great day playing it with Plymouth Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra. Lovely to play with such a good orchestra and fabulous choir. Good to catch up with orchestra friends as well. #freelanceviolinist #musiciandevon
Saturday 18th March 2023. Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel. Wedding drinks reception and wedding breakfast. Another lovely afternoon playing a mixture of classical and popular favourites. We played some Bach, Dvorak, Massenet, Coldplay, Bastille and even some 007! Lovely wedding in another lovely venue. #ExeValleyStringQuartet.
Deer Park Hotel - March 11th 2023. Great wedding gig at the lovely Deer Park Country House near Honiton. This is a popular and regular venue for us and we always get a warm welcome from the staff. This was a particularly unique wedding as we only played classical pieces throughout the day. Being classically trained musicians we enjoyed playing through this part of our repertoire. Mozart, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Vivaldi, Bach, Grieg and lots of others. #weddingquartet. Next stop Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel on Saturday evening.
I played the violin as part of a lovely funeral yesterday at St Stephens Church in Saltash. Its always a difficult gig because the music plays such an important part in setting the right feel and tone for such an occasion. I played a few pieces as a solo before the service started and then played 'Nearer my God to Thee' during a quiet moment for reflection. This is such a beautifully constructed melody and sounds so emotional with a celtic feel. The funeral was full of great music including a piper playing before and after the service. #musiciandevon
Well that was awesome!! A six hour marathon singing session with my Rockies from Torquay, Newton Abbot and Teignmouth at the beautiful Buckfast Abbey. It was a chance to learn/revise some of our older repertoire like 'Hold on' and 'Bridge over Troubled Water'. We all worked extremely hard and are shattered now but it was so worth it. All these 'new' songs sound great and ready for our set lists! Well done everyone. Onto Plymouth next where we will do it all again! We are going to sleep well tonight!
What a beautiful way to end 2022. Back at our most popular venue Rockbeare Manor which was looking so festive and romantic for this Christmas wedding. This time we played as the Exe Valley Trio. 'I can't help falling in love with you', 'What a wonderful world', 'Everything I do I do it for you' and 'All you need is love' were the special requests. We also got to play a few classical favourites as well which is always lovely. It was a special way to finish a very busy but hugely rewarding 2022. All of us at the Exe Valley String Quartet would like to thank all of our couples, our clients, our friends and supporters and families for everything. You are all fabulous!
Final wedding of 2022 as a solo violinist. A beautiful Christmas wedding at the lovely Crowcombe Court in Somerset. 'I get to love you' by Rouelle, 'You are the reason' by Callum Scott and 'This will be' by Natalie Cole were the special requests today. I was also asked to play 'Somewhere over the rainbow' and ' I have a dream' by Abba just before the ceremony started. It has been a wonderful year 2022 and I just want to thank all of the lovely couples and my clients and supporters as well as my family and friends for all their support and encouragement this year. I am looking forward to another musical year in 2023!
What a fabulous experience that was. The excitement of travelling to London and going behind the scenes at Virgin Radio UK. The Chris Evans Breakfast Show Singing LIVE on radio was a little scary but totally exhilarating and so nice to be in amongst all those close harmonies with the band! Chris Evans is a great guy and looked after us really well. I have such variety in my job/work whether that be with Rock Choir or playing the violin. Its a priviledge and I feel very grateful for all the opportunities I now get in the music business!
Really lovely final gig of this busy festive season. We sing at the Mayors Carol service in Newton Abbot every year and every year this event gets better and better. Nice to entertain the locals in our local community and lead the audience in the traditional carols. Merry Christmas to rockies everywhere and especially to my amazing South Devon Rockies! Have a great time!
Christmas Gigs continued this evening at the iconic Theatre Royal Plymouth. Plymouth Rockies were invited to sing pre panto (Oh yes we were!). Lovely cosy venue with really lovely staff who treated us to mince pies afterwards. Plymouth Rockies were on top form and the performance was excellent and very well received by the theatre goers. A different kind of gig for us but one we thoroughly enjoyed. Well done everyone and thank you for turning out on a filthy wet and windy night!
South Devon Rock Choir have been very busy gigging this week. After Totnes Christmas market on Tuesday night we performed on the lights trail at Powderham Castle. It was a tough gig with temperatures reaching -4 degrees but the rock choir were awesome and we entertained the visitors to the castle as they enjoyed the beautiful lights all around the grounds.
On Friday lunchtime we rounded off the week by singing for the residents at Sefton Hall in Dawlish. We sing here quite often and always enjoy this more intimate gig. It is so nice to see the residents reaction to the music and the singing. A great week of singing.
First time at Totnes Christmas market - complete success! We loved singing at this event. Very festive vibe in Totnes and a great crowd who loved our songs. The South Devon Rockies were on top form and we sang brilliantly considering the sub zero temperatures. On to Powderham Castle Christmas lights tomorrow night. Thank you Miss Ivy Events for a great festive event. See you next year!
I played for a very special wedding this weekend. I had the privilege to play the music for my niece at their very beautiful wedding at Orchardleigh Estate in Somerset. It was a lovely family affair in a beautiful setting - it even snowed! Hannah and Roy chose You are the reason by Callum Scott for the entrance of the bridal party, Sweet Child of Mine for the signing of the register and the theme from Top Gun for their exit.
Christmas is well and truly here for the Rockies in South Devon. Saturday the rockies from Teignmouth entertained the crowds at the Christmas tree lights switch on in town. On Sunday it was the turn of the Plymouth rockies who entertained the crowds at the Plymouth Christmas market. Two brilliant gigs! All of the rockies should be so proud of their performances. Lots of great singing and lots of happy people and wonderful feedback. Special mention to Sam who smashed her debut solo with Higher Love and a special mention to both performances of 'Carol of the Bells' - brilliant all weekend and a real highlight!
I have just returned with Exe Valley String Quartet from a beautiful traditional autumnal wedding at the very lovely Huntsham Court Country House, Devon nr Tiverton. The wedding party arrived on foot from the local church accompanied by a piper and then we played a range of contemporary songs and pieces while the guests had drinks. We played our new bespoke arrangement of 'Thank U Next' which is from the Bridgerton soundtrack by Ariana Grande. It set the scene just right.
To complete a lovely weekend of music I had the privilege of playing for Nicole and Josh's wedding at the very lovely Official China Fleet Country Club in Saltash. It's always nice to go over the Tamar into Cornwall. I played 'I can't help falling in love' for the entrance of the bridal party and then I played 'Make you feel my love' and 'perfect' for the signing of the register before I played everybody out to 'Wildest Dreams' from Bridgeton. Lovely wedding with a lovely atmosphere (and very lovely staff)
