Hardcore Devon Rockies!

Abbfest 2025. What a gig! I am so proud of each and every Rockie today for singing in that weather. We did it! It was either sing in the rain or go home. Well there was no chance of going home! Respect to you all. We managed 5 songs before the sound team called the performance off! True Rockie spirit! We are made of tough stuff down here in Devon! Shout out to our rockies on their first gig today - you will never forget it that's for sure! Love you all. Hope you all got home safely and are now nice and warm! Rocking the West End Carnival

What a fantastic gig we had today in the sunshine at the amazing West End Carnival in Plymouth. A fab venue with a really great crowd and a great atmosphere. Plymouth Rockies sang out proud in their City and the feedback was just brilliant. My favourites bits of feedback today were about the smiley faces in the choir and the sheer joy that radiated around the audience while we were singing. A very happy and proud Rock Choir leader. Singing in the rain in Totnes.

Totnes Christmas Market 2024. I don't think we will forget this gig in a hurry! Terrential rain, leaking gazebos, large white horses attacking the MD, light parades.... The Rockies were of course incredible. They sang their hearts out and smiled all the way though the gig. (Two sets as well! Must be mad!) I think its safe to say we put a smile on the face of everyone in Totnes last night with that wonderful performance. We won't mention the very soggy, very grumpy choir leader! He is ok now. merry Christmas everyone and a very Happy New Year.

Three Sell out Christmas concerts with Rock Choir.

Absolutely incredible!  We have just finished three charity concerts in the space of a week in Torquay, Plymouth and Newton Abbot. 3 concerts, 300 singers, 3 towns, £7000 raised for local charities, over 1000 audience and one very happy and very proud musical director! The rockies should all feel so proud after singing their hearts out.  They all sang with such enthusiasm and passion and emotion and they all conducted themselves with such professionalism. They really are a special group of people who help and support each other and never stop smiling!  Fantastic times!

We're singing in the rain!!

Buckfast Abbey Christmas Fair 2024. Well that is a gig that will last long in the memory. It started to rain in the first song and didn't stop for the whole set. The South Devon Rockies still did a fabulous job and sang so well that the large audience stayed and sang and danced in the rain with us! We must all be mad! Great day. Well done everyone, I hope you have all dried off now. Next stop is Paignton Zoo on Sunday.

Beautiful wedding at Huntsham Court (Exe Valley String Quartet)

Lovely bank holiday wedding at the very beautiful Huntsham Court Country House, Devon. Day out with the Exe Valley String Quartet. The weather stayed dry although a bit windy. We played 'Wildest Dreams' from Bridgerton for the entrance of the bridal party, Mama Mia and 'Habits' for the signing of the register and we played out the guests with 'Firework' by Katy Perry. We even got to play some rock songs for the brides father, Sweet Child of Mine and Back in Black by ACDC! First of two very different gigs this bank holiday weekend. Off to Plymouth the Rock Choir tomorrow.

EVSQ at Sandy Cove Hotel in Ilfracombe.

Just returned from our Rock Choir Tour to the Edinburgh Fringe and straight up the Devon Link Road to the beautiful North Devon coast.  I joined up with the fabulous Exe Valley String Quartet and went up to Sandy Cove Hotel in Ilfracombe for a lovely wedding.  It was a bit soggy so we had to play indoors but that didn't matter at all. We even got to play our brand new arrangement of 'I don't wanna miss a thing' by Airosmith for the Brides entrance. We get to play at some stunning venues.

EVSQ play wedding at new venue - Lavender House.

I joined the Exe Valley String Quartet today for a lovely wedding at a new venue for us.  Lavender House near Ashburton. Another lovely summers day playing outside in the gardens for the ceremony and the drinks reception.  Music requests included a new one - Habits by Tove Lo for the brides entrance.  We also played At Last and Sign Sealed Delivered for the signing of the register and a good old classic to send them on their way - All you need is love by The Beatles.  We were also asked to play a quartet version of Hi Ho Silver Lining - it kinda worked!  Another great day!

Another road trip to beautiful Salcombe.

On Friday I played violin for a beautiful wedding in the very stunning Harbour Hotel Salcombe for Laura and Josh. It was an electric violin day with 'Wildest Dreams' from Bridgerton for the entrance of the bridal party. I particularly enjoyed arranging and learning 'Going Home' from the film The Local Hero for the signing of the register. This was for Josh and all the Newcastle Fans in the guests! Everybody exited to 'I believe in a thing called Love' by The Darkness on Violin! It was awesome! I then played for a couple of hours while guests had canapes and drinks. Lovely day. Thank you to Laura Louise Hall for being a brilliant wedding planner on the day.
