Exclusively Elvis Vocal Workshop March 4th 2023. Jailhouse Rock, I can't help falling in love with you, Burning Love. I love these workshops because we start from nothing and leave a few hours later with this wonderful arrangement of songs in three and four part harmony. A great achievement from all involved. What a great way to start a Saturday. What shall we do next? 60 Rockies from all over Devon. It's always lovely to join up together and work with Vikki and her members. Great day!
Well that was awesome!! A six hour marathon singing session with my Rockies from Torquay, Newton Abbot and Teignmouth at the beautiful Buckfast Abbey. It was a chance to learn/revise some of our older repertoire like 'Hold on' and 'Bridge over Troubled Water'. We all worked extremely hard and are shattered now but it was so worth it. All these 'new' songs sound great and ready for our set lists! Well done everyone. Onto Plymouth next where we will do it all again! We are going to sleep well tonight!
Christmas Gigs continued this evening at the iconic Theatre Royal Plymouth. Plymouth Rockies were invited to sing pre panto (Oh yes we were!). Lovely cosy venue with really lovely staff who treated us to mince pies afterwards. Plymouth Rockies were on top form and the performance was excellent and very well received by the theatre goers. A different kind of gig for us but one we thoroughly enjoyed. Well done everyone and thank you for turning out on a filthy wet and windy night!
South Devon Rock Choir have been very busy gigging this week. After Totnes Christmas market on Tuesday night we performed on the lights trail at Powderham Castle. It was a tough gig with temperatures reaching -4 degrees but the rock choir were awesome and we entertained the visitors to the castle as they enjoyed the beautiful lights all around the grounds.
On Friday lunchtime we rounded off the week by singing for the residents at Sefton Hall in Dawlish. We sing here quite often and always enjoy this more intimate gig. It is so nice to see the residents reaction to the music and the singing. A great week of singing.
First time at Totnes Christmas market - complete success! We loved singing at this event. Very festive vibe in Totnes and a great crowd who loved our songs. The South Devon Rockies were on top form and we sang brilliantly considering the sub zero temperatures. On to Powderham Castle Christmas lights tomorrow night. Thank you Miss Ivy Events for a great festive event. See you next year!
What a morning! 100 singers learning the iconic song 'You will be found' from Dear Evan Hanson with me at The Watermark, Ivybridge. A great pick me up and feel good session which is just what we all need at the moment. The choir did a brilliant job. Learning a brand new song in four part harmony was a challenging but hugely rewarding session. And, what a result! The sound at the end of our three hour workshop was simply amazing. Well done everyone. I hope you enjoyed the scrummy chords as much as I did!
Thank you Dawlish Celebrates Carnival for another great gig. We always love to sing in Dawlish and the audience was lively and so appreciative. We even got a standing ovation at the end! I am proud of my choir members for singing with so much intensity and enthusiasm in such 'hot' conditions. Each and everyone of you were brilliant yesterday and you all look so smart. Well done everyone!
August 5th 2022 - Buckfast Abbey Summer fair. Fantastic gig at the most beautiful of venues. A hidden gem in South Devon for sure. Over 100 rockies came together to sing to a really appreciative audience who joined in with the singing and the dancing. The South Devon Rockies were on top form. Another day where I go home uplifted, very happy and very proud to be a rock choir leader. Rock Choir Caroline Redman Lusher Buckfast Abbey. Rockies - What was your favourite part of the day?
July 2nd 2022. South Devon Big Sing. Mutley Baptist Church, Plymouth. We had an amazing day together. Over 150 rockies and all of our favourite rock choir songs. We shared this wonderful day with the the ever inspiring Caroline Redman Lusher who is the founder and Creative Director of Rock Choir. You need to be there to experience the uplifting feeling of singing in choir of 150. Unbelievable and a great memory to take away from a great Rock Choir year.
Rock Choir. Caroline Redman Lusher. What a way to end the most wonderful Rock Choir weekend. 150 Rockies singing their hearts out yesterday at our big sing which was hugely emotional. Today we were at Teignmouth Airshow singing in the Devon sunshine. Another great gig with the Devon Rockies and another great audience. We are well and truly back guys! Im still buzzing from that fix of singing, are you?
RACE FOR LIFE - PLYMOUTH 2022. Always a very special and highly emotional gig. Very rewarding and a lovely event to be invited to sing at. Well done to Plymouth Rockies and a few visiting Saltash Rockies as well. Great place to sing with lovely views. Thanks Harrison for the pictures.
What an awesome few days we had! South Devon Rockies literally rocked the whole of South Devon. To celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee we rocked Teignmouth, Dawlish, Torquay and Paignton all in the space of 4 days. A happy time for us all to remember! Rock Choir. We even squeezed in a flash mob at the Riviera Airshow as part of our 70 falsh mobs in 70 towns event. Great gigs!
We are getting ready for the Jubilee in our Rock Choir sessions this week. Rockies love any excuse to dress up and wave a flag. Here are the Torquay rockies starting the week off in great fashion as they always do! Singing, cake, chatting with friends, laughing, raising money for local charities Rowcroft Hospice - what a way to start the week. They sound awesome as well by the way!
That was a great Rock Choir day! Over 100 rockies from across Devon joined forces to learn 'Somebody to love' by Queen. The 4 hour workshop included singing through other Queen classics and learning this iconic Queen rock song. Richard and Vikki joined together to lead the workshop where we learnt the entire song and performed it at the end. We also looked at vocal technique and performance technique as well. A fabulous occasion where we all worked extremely hard but had a huge amount of fun at the same time.
It has been a real pleasure working alongside Guide Dogs South West the past couple of years. We are very proud to say that we have raised over £5000 and we can now 'Name our own puppy' and help fund the early years of training. The members of my rock choirs are wonderful and have been really creative with fundraising whilst singing and having fun along the way.
It was nice to spend the morning yesterday directing my rock choirs at Bovey Castle. This is venue that I play at often with the Exe Valley String Quartet but this was a choir gig this time. We sang live on BBC Breakfast to help the legend that is Tom Daley on his final leg of his challenge for Red Nose Day. It was nice that the BBC acknowledged the link between our string quartet, Bovey Castle and us playing for the wedding of Tom and Lance back in 2017. Both of these events were awesome experiences that I will always remember and cherish.
Our final gig before Christmas and what a cracker it was. We sang in Torquay for the Christmas shoppers and it was awesome. The Torquay folk were singing and dancing along with us and we all had such a good day. It was lovely to see other rockies in the audience supporting and again we were raising much needed funds for Guide Dogs South West. Well done to Torquay Rock choir (and guests). You were all brilliant! Rock Choir.
I am really really enjoying our Christmas Gigs this year. Last night we performed at the Mayors Carol Service in Newton Abbot. This is a real community and festive evening with traditional carols and readings and of course the amazing Newton Abbot Rock Choir (with a few friends to help). The Rockies performed brilliantly and created a lively and happy atmosphere in the town. All of the gigs have been superb this year. One more to go in Torquay on Saturday which Im very excited about as well. Well done everybody!
We had a fabulous day in Teignmouth today singing for the local Christmas Shoppers. We were raising money for the Guide Dogs Southwest as we remain on course to raise £5000 so we can name a puppy. On a cold grey morning we cheered up the town and the shoppers with two contrasting sets of uplifting pop and rock songs and of course Christmas classics. The choir were awesome and made me incredibly proud today. When you consider what everyone has been through to be out in the local community singing live again was wonderful. Love Rock Choir! next Rock Choir gig is in Newton Abbot on Wednesday.
