South Devon Rock Choir at Maltings Fest Beer Festival.

What a great way to start the brand new summer term. We love singing at the MaltingsFest and there is always a great crowd and great atmosphere. 90 rockies came together today with no rehearsals after five weeks Easter holiday and were brilliant. I hope you all enjoyed Toomer's challenge - 16 songs, 2 sets and all of the new ones from last term! Great gig, well done everyone. Shout out to the guys on their first gig today. You were awesome! Looking forward to the new term on Monday! Rock ChoirCaroline Redman Lusher #newtonabbot

Video Shoot for 'Fix You' by Coldplay.

Well what a day that was! I am emotionally drained. 150 Rockies from South Devon Rock Choir came together today to record the video for our 'Fix You' by Coldplay project. Each and every one of you should be immensely proud of today. What an amazing performance of a beautiful arrangement of 'Fix You'. You sang with such expression and so much emotion. I cannot wait to see the final video and hear the thousands of voices on the track. Well done everyone and Thank you. Classical wedding with Exe Valley String Quartet.

Deer Park Hotel - March 11th 2023. Great wedding gig at the lovely Deer Park Country House near Honiton. This is a popular and regular venue for us and we always get a warm welcome from the staff. This was a particularly unique wedding as we only played classical pieces throughout the day. Being classically trained musicians we enjoyed playing through this part of our repertoire. Mozart, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Vivaldi, Bach, Grieg and lots of others. #weddingquartet. Next stop Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel on Saturday evening.

Devon Rockies singing Elvis classics.

Exclusively Elvis Vocal Workshop March 4th 2023. Jailhouse Rock, I can't help falling in love with you, Burning Love. I love these workshops because we start from nothing and leave a few hours later with this wonderful arrangement of songs in three and four part harmony. A great achievement from all involved. What a great way to start a Saturday. What shall we do next? 60 Rockies from all over Devon.  It's always lovely to join up together and work with Vikki and her members.  Great day!

Funeral music on Violin.

I played the violin as part of a lovely funeral yesterday at St Stephens Church in Saltash. Its always a difficult gig because the music plays such an important part in setting the right feel and tone for such an occasion. I played a few pieces as a solo before the service started and then played 'Nearer my God to Thee' during a quiet moment for reflection. This is such a beautifully constructed melody and sounds so emotional with a celtic feel. The funeral was full of great music including a piper playing before and after the service. #musiciandevon

Marathon Singing session with South Devon Rockies Pt 1.

Well that was awesome!! A six hour marathon singing session with my Rockies from Torquay, Newton Abbot and Teignmouth at the beautiful Buckfast Abbey. It was a chance to learn/revise some of our older repertoire like 'Hold on' and 'Bridge over Troubled Water'. We all worked extremely hard and are shattered now but it was so worth it. All these 'new' songs sound great and ready for our set lists! Well done everyone. Onto Plymouth next where we will do it all again! We are going to sleep well tonight!

Winter wedding at Bovey Castle with EVSQ.

There is something very romantic about a winter wedding. The cold weather and the open fireplace and the frosty open spaces through the windows. We had a really lovely wedding yesterday at Bovey Castle. This is a regular venue for us and we always enjoy playing there. Requests included I Giorni, Best day of my life and a lovely slowed down version of Came here for love. A beautiful day on Dartmoor. Good to be back playing together after our Christmas break.

Local Library Gig in Newton Abbot with Rock Choir.

We have just lead a short 'come and have a try' session in Newton Abbot Library. We had a really lovely afternoon singing within our local community. Small and intimate gigs are really enjoyable. We sang some of our songs and then we asked the audience to join us in a few of our unique 'warm ups'. We all had a great afternoon and it's lovely to share the love in the local community. #newtonabbot#singing#teignmouth Rock Choir.

A morning on The Chris Evans Show!

What a fabulous experience that was. The excitement of travelling to London and going behind the scenes at Virgin Radio UK. The Chris Evans Breakfast Show Singing LIVE on radio was a little scary but totally exhilarating and so nice to be in amongst all those close harmonies with the band! Chris Evans is a great guy and looked after us really well. I have such variety in my job/work whether that be with Rock Choir or playing the violin.  Its a priviledge and I feel very grateful for all the opportunities I now get in the music business!

Plymouth Rockies sing @ Theatre Royal

Christmas Gigs continued this evening at the iconic Theatre Royal Plymouth. Plymouth Rockies were invited to sing pre panto (Oh yes we were!). Lovely cosy venue with really lovely staff who treated us to mince pies afterwards. Plymouth Rockies were on top form and the performance was excellent and very well received by the theatre goers. A different kind of gig for us but one we thoroughly enjoyed. Well done everyone and thank you for turning out on a filthy wet and windy night!

Rock Choir Rock Powderham Castle

South Devon Rock Choir have been very busy gigging this week. After Totnes Christmas market on Tuesday night we performed on the lights trail at Powderham Castle.  It was a tough gig with temperatures reaching -4 degrees but the rock choir were awesome and we entertained the visitors to the castle as they enjoyed the beautiful lights all around the grounds.

On Friday lunchtime we rounded off the week by singing for the residents at Sefton Hall in Dawlish.  We sing here quite often and always enjoy this more intimate gig.  It is so nice to see the residents reaction to the music and the singing.  A great week of singing.
