One final wedding today at Rockbeare Manor this time as a solo violinist. Lovely atmosphere and decorations to make it feel very festive. Some beautiful music choices today including Taylor Swift's 'Lover', Beauty and the Beast and Can you feel the love tonight. Lovely audience who were very appreciative, we even had a couple have a dance as well. Time to give the violin a well earned rest now until next year.
Yesterday we played our last wedding of the year at the very beautiful Higher Eggbeer Farm. It felt very Christmassy in the barn with the twinkling lights and roaring fires. The bride walked in to ‘The most beautiful girl in the world’ by Prince and we played ‘Dancing in the kitchen’ by Lany for the bride and groom’s exit.
Absolutely incredible! We have just finished three charity concerts in the space of a week in Torquay, Plymouth and Newton Abbot. 3 concerts, 300 singers, 3 towns, £7000 raised for local charities, over 1000 audience and one very happy and very proud musical director! The rockies should all feel so proud after singing their hearts out. They all sang with such enthusiasm and passion and emotion and they all conducted themselves with such professionalism. They really are a special group of people who help and support each other and never stop smiling! Fantastic times!
We braved the stormy weather yesterday and took a road trip over the moors to beautiful (but windy) Tavistock. A lovely winter wedding in the iconic town hall. The bride walked into the theme from 'A Little Chaos' which is a great string piece. We also played I Giorni and Sweet Disposition - a real mixture of pieces and genres. We have one more winter wedding next Saturday and then we have a well earned break in January and February.
Paignton Zoo 2024. Unfortunately another damp and soggy gig for us all but that doesn't stop the rockies does it! Thank you all for being so professional in difficult weather conditions. You still managed to sing with a smile on your faces which was wonderful to see. We enjoyed ourselves didn't we? I think the monkeys did as well. Well done everyone. Next stop is our Torquay concert on Tuesday and Torbay Bay of Lights on Thursday!
Totnes Guildhall Wedding November 30th 2024. Nice to play in a unique setting. Always nice when we are asked to play from our classical repertoire. Beautiful music like Wedding Day at Troldhaugen (Grieg) and Tchaikovsky Waltz Des Fleurs. This was complemented by the brides entrance (moonlight Serenade) and exit music (Nobody Does it Better - 007). Richard was happy because we also got to play a lot of Beatles songs as well.
Buckfast Abbey Christmas Fair 2024. Well that is a gig that will last long in the memory. It started to rain in the first song and didn't stop for the whole set. The South Devon Rockies still did a fabulous job and sang so well that the large audience stayed and sang and danced in the rain with us! We must all be mad! Great day. Well done everyone, I hope you have all dried off now. Next stop is Paignton Zoo on Sunday.
IvyBridge Christmas Market 2024. Always a festive and community feel to this event. Lots of people there including lots of Rockies coming to support each other. The new songs sound amazing and I can't tell you how many people stopped me afterwards to say how wonderful the choir was. Well done everyone who came along. A great way to kick off the Christmas season. Miss Ivy Events Rock Choir
What a lovely gig tonight. Playing the violin for a drinks reception for the Devon and Somerset Law Society annual dinner. I serenaded Sir Ian Botham, Viv Richards and big Joel Garner in the cricket museum at Somerset CCC. (Well carboard cut outs anyway!). I enjoy playing for the corporate dinners and drinks receptions, always a good crowd in a great mood! usually having a drink!
We had a lovely evening singing at the Tavistock Town Hall last night. It was a concert in conjunction with Tavistock Lions in front of a full house in aid of local charities. The Plymouth Rockies did us all proud and sang with real energy and emotion. It was a really great night and the feedback has been really positive. Thanks to everyone who came, fab Friday night followed by chips in the pub afterwards! Rock Choir Caroline Redman Lusher. #plymouth
A lovely autumnal wedding today. Off to Deer Park Hotel nr Honiton again today to play in the October sunshine in their beautiful summer garden. 'I can't help falling in love with you' for the brides entrance, 'Runaway' by The Corrs and 'Kiss Me' by Sixpence non the Richer for the signing of the register. The Corrs music suits the electric violin perfectly! L-O-V-E to finish and then a set of lively upbeat pop and rock tunes while the guests had photos and drinks. Nice to be back at Deer Park Hotel again.
Another lovely trip to gorgeous Rockbeare Manor. This venue seems to be our second home now and we love playing here. Thanks to Steph and the team for looking after us. We played a mixture of pieces before the ceremony including the 007 theme for the groomsmen who looked very dapper. We then played for an hour or so to accompany the drinks reception including 'Life on Mars' which we haven't played for a while. Great tune! Lovely day making music together. We will be back in December for some Christmas weddings.
Just returned from our first gig at Abbfest having had a really lovely morning singing for the crowds. This will hopefully become an annual gig for us now. Thank you to all of the rockies who came to sing and those who came to watch, you were awesome and the feedback was so positive. A lovely way to spend a Saturday morning. It was an absolute privilege to play for the wedding of Vikki and Ian yesterday at Deer Park Country House. Vikki is a good friend of mine from the music scene in the South West of England. It was a beautiful day in a stunning setting. Music requests included 'One Day Like This', 'We Have All The Time In The World' and 'Paradise'. Congratulations to you both and best wishes for your future together.
I went back to the very lovely Upton Barn & Walled Garden today for another beautiful wedding. This time I was on my own as a solo violinist playing some new tunes. The bridal party entered to 'If I ain't got you' by Alicia Keys which works really well on electric violin. I played L.O.V.E. for the signing of the register and played another new tune 'Are you ready for Love' by Elton John for the exit which also went down really well. I played for the drinks reception and then swapped instruments and played some background piano tunes for the wedding breakfast. Lovely day. Thank you to the staff for being so helpful and welcoming.
I had a double header this weekend with the Exe Valley String Quartet. Friday we played at a wedding at Upton Barn and Walled Gardens which is a regular venue for us over the past few years. Lovely wedding with some Bridgerton music and James Bond 007 theme. On Saturday we travelled down the A38 to the very beautiful Hareston Manor. What a stunning place to get married! This was a Canadian wedding so we played the groomsmen and bridesmaids in first (Ed Sheeran Perfect) followed by the bride (Take my Hand - Picture this). We then played a wide range of styles and classics for the drinks reception and photographs. It was a really lovely occasion. What a job I have!
First time performing at the Family Fun Day in Plymouth. Nice community gig singing to lots of lovely people. They loved hearing us and joining in. Well done to the Plymouth Rockies for a thoroughly professional performance. We had to deal with high winds, heavy showers, an outdoor acoustic, a dog show (which was really cute). Sounded awesome and we had lots of positive feedback. There was lots of food and drink stalls at the event and I tried a vegan sausage roll for the very first time. (Sorry guys, I wasn't convinced!) Thank you to the Newton Abbot Rockies and Dawlish/Teignmouth Rockies who came along in their tee shirts to support. It was lovely to see you and a big heart felt thank you for being there. #plymouth #newtonabbot #torquay #dawlish #teignmouth.
Lovely bank holiday wedding at the very beautiful Huntsham Court Country House, Devon. Day out with the Exe Valley String Quartet. The weather stayed dry although a bit windy. We played 'Wildest Dreams' from Bridgerton for the entrance of the bridal party, Mama Mia and 'Habits' for the signing of the register and we played out the guests with 'Firework' by Katy Perry. We even got to play some rock songs for the brides father, Sweet Child of Mine and Back in Black by ACDC! First of two very different gigs this bank holiday weekend. Off to Plymouth the Rock Choir tomorrow.
To round off a fabulous Rock Choir couple of weeks we came back to Dawlish like we do every August to sing at the Dawlish Celebrates Carnival. As always the atmosphere in the town and the audience was buzzing. Its always so nice to sing in our local community. Well done to all the South Devon Rockies who sang this morning. Lots of very positive feedback. Time for a short break now before we sing at the family fun day in Central Park, Plymouth. #torquay #plymouth #newtonabbot #teignmouth #dawlish Rock Choir.
August has been a super busy month full of wonderful gigs at wonderful venues. Saturday 10th August I had the privilege to play for Emily and Will's wedding. The ceremony was a traditional ceremony in Shobrooke Parish Church where I played a new arrangement of Sail Away by David Gray. Afterwards we drove through some good old Devon country lanes to Pitt Farm near Thorveton where I played for the drinks reception. Gorgeous wedding in stunning Devon countryside. Always feel very privileged and lucky to do what I do for a living! Looking forward to a short break now - back in a couple of weeks!
